The international conference “Europe in Balance: Law, Society and Human Security in the EU’s Area of Justice” took place on 16 April 2025 within the framework of the Jean Monnet Chair project 101081375 – EUJUSEF.

The event brought together academic staff and researchers, representatives of institutional environments and practitioners, alongside first-cycle (Bachelor’s), second-cycle (Master’s) students and PhD candidates interested in recent developments in the European Union’s Area of Freedom, Security and Justice.

The conference agenda focused on analysing the interaction between law, social dynamics and the human security dimension, with an emphasis on how EU policies and instruments contribute to protecting fundamental rights, strengthening social cohesion and enhancing resilience in the face of contemporary risks. The discussions addressed topics such as the rule of law, migration and asylum, combating cross-border crime, digital security, victim protection, and the role of European institutions in promoting a citizen-centred approach.

The conference provided a platform for dialogue and the exchange of good practices, encouraging academic cooperation and the development of joint research and training initiatives. Through this activity, the EUJUSEF project strengthens its mission to support excellence in European studies and to promote a deeper understanding of EU policies in the fields of justice, security and freedom.
